Numeracy


At Nathalia Primary all grades have a minimum one-hour mathematics lesson every day.

 

Teaching of Numeracy incorporates the three main strands from the Victorian Curriculum for Mathematics 2.0; Number, Algebra, Measurement, Space, Statistics, Probability.

 

Teachers use an agreed scope and sequence to inform their planning for Mathematics, ensuring that students are provided access to high-quality learning of specific skills within each strand.

 

Students have access to a range of resources including hands on materials to give them the best opportunity to develop their understanding of new concepts.

 

Mathematics is delivered using a concistent instructional Gradual Release of Responsibility across F-6 at Nathalia Primary School. This includes:

  • Daily Review/ Number Fluency Warmup
  • Learning Intentions & Success Criteria
  • Explicit Teaching of new knowledge
  • Guided Pracactice scaffolded by the teacher
  • Independent Practise
  • Reflection on learning

All students are taught and assessed against the expectations of the Victorian Curriculum.
